CMIC Launches New England’s Only Patient Information Security
Breach Insurance Coverage for Healthcare Professionals
GLASTONBURY, CT – July 12, 2010 – CMIC, a leading doctor-owned medical malpractice
insurer serving New England, today announced the addition of
new insurance coverage for patient information security breach exposures called
MedID ProtectionSM. This new product provides insurance protection for the broad
range of network-related exposures unique to healthcare professionals. CMIC is one
of the few insurance providers nationwide and the only in New England to offer this
coverage to its policyholders.
Available July 1, this new coverage is provided at no additional
charge to policyholders. The new product covers liabilities such as third party
allegations of breach of privacy, libel, identity theft, slander and defamation;
defense coverage for government investigations into HIPAA violations; and recovery
of electronic data lost by reason of a computer virus attack, hacking and other
unauthorized system invasions.
